Fall is a Time for Change | Learn something new and tackling end of the year goals

Originally published: October 1, 2023

Fall is a season of transitions. The leaves change colors and cascade to the ground signifying the change in time. It’s a fan favorite for so many obvious reasons, and one of the reasons I’m so obsessed with fall is the resurgence of change that’s palpable everywhere you look.

I know Spring cleaning is a thing but if I’m being honest I love a good fall clean out. I go through all my boxes and storage spots to gather my autumn and Halloween decor providing the perfect time to take inventory of what I have.

Your fall checklist doesn’t have to stop at the physical. Although clearing out a space generally clears up headspace, it’s a great time to sit down and get clear on goals. The end of the year is coming up, and even if you’re not a fan of following a four quarter calendar I always find the vibes of fall to be naturally inspiring. I like to think it’s because I’m a scorpio!

If you’re hoping to get the most out of fall look at my list below of ways to take this seasonal transition into other areas of your life!

Learn something new!

Fall is the perfect season to try something new! The weather is getting cooler, people are spending more time indoors, so you can get cracking on that new hobby you’ve been meaning to pick up.

Cozy fabric arts like knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing etc. are great to start in fall when you can throw on your finished projects and head out into the brisk weather.

Youtube and TikTok are my hobby/skill learning platforms of choice. There’s almost nothing you can’t learn on the internet!

Work through your TBR list

Warm lighting, a fireplace (real or digital) crackling in the background with a good book and hot drink is my definition of an amazing fall evening. If you want book recommendations to get you in the fall mood check out my fall book list!

Get clear on your end of the year goals

It’s the end of September which means you still have three whole months to accomplish some items off your goal list. In my opinion, some progress is better than no progress. If you have trouble with perfectionism holding you back from taking the next steps toward your goals, remember imperfect progress is still progress. Take this time indoors to map out how you can make the most of the last few months of the year to finish strong.

I prefer a calendar method where I can fill in days with what I would like to accomplish, and then set reminders in my phone. As someone who’s naturally forgetful having my phone remind me even for small tasks is immensely helpful in getting things done.

Focus on your mental health

As magical as the fall time and subsequent holidays months can feel, the change in weather and earlier sunset time is also cause for seasonal depression in so many. The fall is a great time to think about what helps your mental health and trying to implement ways to make it a part of your routine. Although much easier said than done even the smallest things that make you feel better can make a big difference over time.

As always, consult with mental health professionals for medical advice about your specific situation.

Try out some new seasonal recipes

If you’ve been meaning to test out new recipes or try your hand at baking I think fall is a great time to start! You can take your time and learn how to make that new dish you saw on TikTok in time to bring it to Thanksgiving dinner! Of course baking anything apple or pumpkin themed is another go to for Fall!

I can’t wait to try out this recipe by Moon Mirror for pumpkin shaped apple mini pies for my upcoming Halloween party!
